Hi Mehwaish,

The Parent=E2=80=99s Committee had a discussion today, and we have some th=
ings
that we=E2=80=99d like to share.

For the Mother=E2=80=99s Day brunch, we do not feel comfortable asking the=
 daycare
moms to purchase tickets for an event that is supposed to show them how
much they are appreciated, while at the same time asking them to take time
off work. We would rather just not put on this event at all.

As for the End of Year Party, having it as a potluck AND a ticketed event,
doesn=E2=80=99t sit well with us. We are essentially asking the parents to =
bring
food and pay to eat it.

Each family already pays a lot to send their child(ren) to private
daycare, and in a lot of cases, this is not by choice since finding spots
in subsidized daycares is near impossible. On top of the tuition, Kiddy Kat
families already pay extra monthly fees for mandatory classes that used to
be included in the base price (like karate and dance). This is in addition
to the substantial per-day price increase we=E2=80=99ve seen in the last tw=
o years.

During our meeting last night, every event was turned into a way of asking
existing Kiddy Kat families for more money. It seems as though the daycare
doesn=E2=80=99t have the funds for events, but insists on holding them as a=
n
opportunity to bring additional funds to the daycare under the guise of
celebration. It was also brought to our attention that parents would be
asked to reach deeper into their pockets for additional donations to buy
new toys for the daycare.

We believe that Kiddy Kat should show more loyalty to its families and
parents and find better ways to raise funds for the daycare if it is
struggling. These suggestions and methods create a lot of animosity as
families begin to feel nickel and dimed. As previously mentioned, the cost
is already quite high. Perhaps efforts could be made toward community
involvement, fundraising from the community, or a marketing plan to bring
Kiddy Kat to capacity.

I would also like to add that a passing remark by Miss Marnie said during
last evening=E2=80=99s meeting was quite hurtful. It made us feel like our =
time and
efforts are not seen nor appreciated.

While discussing the catering option for the brunch, Miss Marnie said that
the sandwiches that we had ordered through the daycare catering company for
Teacher=E2=80=99s Appreciation Week were not good enough.

These sandwiches were the best option with the limited budget available,
and it was even supplemented personally by some committee members so that
our educators could feel appreciated. Perhaps Marnie misspoke, or we
misunderstood, but regardless, her words were insulting.

We are on this committee as volunteers. We all have very busy lives and
careers, but also want to help the daycare as much as possible. Between the
Assistant Director=E2=80=99s comments and the suggestions and intentions di=
splayed
at the meeting, it was hard not to feel insulted or exploited, and has us
all rethinking everything we=E2=80=99ve been doing.

Let me know if you would like to discuss any of this further.
